Emotional Truth In Poetry

I had a great workshop with the Shalom Writers Group yesterday. We talked a lot about the importance of emotional truth in poetry. I believe the best writing comes from that part of you that you’re afraid to put on the page. I always hope a reader will have a visceral response to a poem, and often that means in writing I experience a physical unease. As a writer you have to be brave and put yourself out there, even though it’s not always comfortable.
